How you can make a difference
there are so many ways to help save our reefs
- Educate yourself - it is so important to learn about the coral reefs because they are commonly overlooked in marine biology
- A great way to learn about the reefs is to watch the Netlix documentary: Chasing Coral
- Recycle and pick up trash - pollution suffocates and kills coral quickly along with much of the marine life surrounding the reefs
- Use oxybenzone-free sunscreen - oxybenzone is a chemical commonly found in many sunscreens and it immediately kills coral (additionally, the chemical is not too great for humans either!)
- Scuba dive - although this seems like a crazy idea, scuba certification is simple and allows people to get close to the coral to see what is happening with their own eyes
- Even better: get a Coral Restoration diver certification through the Coral Restoration Foundation and get in on the action!
- Donate - donating money to the Coral Restoration Foundation funds divers and allows them to replant coral in reefs as well as educate others on the topic
- Spread the word - make sure to help others to become aware of the issue; one person can create a change, but the impact of thousands of people makes a movement
- Ask questions - stay curious and remember to ask about what you do not know (feel free to email us any questions at savingcoral.hk@gmail.com)
