Fundraising for the reefs
Here is how to fundraise for the Coral Restoration Foundation. It is easy, and every penny counts. Follow these steps and don’t hesitate to ask any questions below!
STEP 1
The first step to fundraising is to gather all of your materials. You don’t need much:
Poster with the goal of the fundraiser
Optional: Flyers to hand out with details about the fundraiser
A jar or box for money
Optional: baked goods or drinks to sell for the reefs
A table and maybe a few chairs
Some friends or family!
To make it easier for you to fundraise, we have created a poster and possible flyers for you to print and set up at your fundraising site. Click here to download the poster. Print the poster and hold it while fundraising or tape it to your table. If you want to get creative, feel free to make your own poster(s) instead, but make sure to include all of the details. If you would like to print flyers to hand out, click here. For small business cards, click here and print double sided.
Step 2
After gathering the materials, it is time to fundraise.
Set up your space. This could be outside of a shop (with permission of the owner), at a park (again, with permission), or even at the end of your driveway. Tape up the poster or hold it in your hands. If you have baked goods or flyers, set those out neatly along with your money jar or box.
Gathering donations. As people walk, run, or drive by, kindly ask for donations. Say things such as, “Hi! Would you like to donate to the Coral Restoration Foundation? Every dollar contributes to research and saving the coral reefs”. Some people will say no and that’s okay, but if a person donates, make sure to say thank you and provide information so that they can share the project with their friends. If you have baked goods or other items to sell, come up with a reasonable selling price and remember to tell buyers that all profits go to the CRF.
Taking pictures. Please take pictures of your fundraising! We would love to see you fundraising, the fundraising stand, and (if permitted by customers) pictures of customers who have donated. Send us these pictures at savingcoral.hk@gmail.com.
Cleaning up. Make sure to clean up your space when you are finished. This is especially important if you are in front of a store or in a public area, because you want to be invited back!
Step 3
Now that you are finished fundraising, there are a few more important steps:
Gathering the money. Count up all of the money that you have earned. Once you have counted the money, head over to the bank and convert the profits into a check. This check can be addressed to the Coral Restoration Foundation.
Take a picture. Take a picture of this check and send it to us (savingcoral.hk@gmail.com)! We would love to record the amount of money that you have made and thank you for your devotion to the reefs.
Setting up the envelope. Once you have the check, place it in an envelope. Click here and print out that label. Make sure to fill in all blanks after you print the label. Tape it onto the envelope and if you would like, include your return address in the top corner.
Send it over. The last step is to send it to the CRF. They will be beyond thrilled!
